This is not an ordinary mala. Before it reaches you, this 5 Mukhi Rudraksha mala has been made siddh through sava lakh jaap: one hundred and twenty-five thousand recitations, completed bead by bead on the mala itself.

In tradition, a mala on which a full anushthan of jaap has been completed carries that practice with it, and is kept for one's own daily jaap and puja. It is then blessed in puja by Acharya Maniesh Gambhir before it is packed, and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

  • 108 natural 5 Mukhi Rudraksha beads + 1 Sumeru (guru bead)
  • Each bead knotted on saffron thread, finished with a saffron silk tassel
  • Siddh through sava lakh (1,25,000) jaap
  • Mantra of the 5 Mukhi Rudraksha: Om Namah Shivaya
  • Long enough to wear around the neck as well as for jaap

The 5 Mukhi Rudraksha is sacred to Lord Shiva in his Kalagni Rudra form, and is the bead most widely used for jaap of any mantra.

A siddh mala is prepared one at a time, so it is made in very small numbers. Rudraksha is natural, so the size and texture of each bead vary slightly. Descriptions reflect traditional beliefs shared for spiritual practice.

How to do jaap

Sit facing east or north on a clean asana, ideally at the same time each day. Rest the mala on the middle finger of your right hand and move each bead towards you with the thumb; traditionally the index finger does not touch the mala. Begin beside the Sumeru (guru bead) and chant one mantra on each bead; 108 beads make one round. When you reach the Sumeru, do not cross it: turn the mala around and begin the next round. Many keep the hand inside a gomukhi (cloth bag) while chanting.

Care

Keep your jaap mala for jaap and store it in its pouch, in your puja space, when you are not chanting. Keep it away from water, soap and perfume. Now and then wipe it with a soft cloth and apply a drop of sesame oil, and let it dry before you put it away.
